We frequently receive requests from interstate patients to have their surgery in Melbourne. As long as you allocate sufficient time for the decision making process and for the postoperative recovery, having your surgery from interstate will not jeopardise either the outcome or your experience.

In general, you should allow a minimum of three weeks after your surgery where you need to be available to return to us in East Melbourne for your postoperative appointments. Additionally, you should expect to return to Melbourne at monthly intervals following your surgery for 3 months.

Our rooms are adjacent to the Fitzroy Gardens in East Melbourne and are in very close proximity to the Melbourne CBD. On average, the trip from the airport to our rooms is approximately 60 minutes by taxi.

It is foreseeable therefore, that you could have your surgery here in Melbourne, return home and then return for your postoperative visits in East Melbourne on a same day basis.

It is helpful if you can bring someone along to your initial consultation so that they also can listen to the consultation, and therefore provide additional perspective and answers to some of the queries you may have upon leaving our surgery.

We are able to provide you with a number of recommendations for hotels at which your partner, husband, or wife may stay. We are also able to coordinate for you to have an extended admission to Epworth Freemasons Hospital so that you can recover adequately before returning back to the hotel or to your relatives’ house in Melbourne if you wish.

The most important and critical aspect of the surgery when conducted from interstate is to ensure that you are available to return to postoperative appointments, particularly should we decide that we need to see you more frequently than is usual.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
